Tom Petty with dinosaur, 1988.

This photo is from the first time I went to Tom’s house in Encino, CA in 1988. It was a temporary house, his other one had burned down and he was camped here while waiting for the other one to be rebuilt. I remember going into his living room and he was on the couch holding a 2 foot long loaded peace pipe and said, “I thought we’d smoke this peace pipe and talk about photography and then later we could do some.” And that’s how he ended up behind the curtains with a dinosaur.
